Melik Tangi Bridge - Harmony of History and Nature

Melik Tangi Bridge is located in the Syunik region of Armenia, 20 km east of the city of Sisian, in a deep gorge of the Vorotan River. Built in 1855, this single-span bridge is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a living testament to the history of Syunik. Historical Heritage

The Melik Tangi Bridge was built at the initiative of Melik Tangi II, the governor of Sisian province, to improve the road leading to Tatev. According to historical sources, the Tangyan dynasty originated from the city of Ani, where their ancestor, Melik Stepan, achieved a high rank of military leadership. After relocating to Brnakot, this dynasty played a significant role in the history of Syunik.

Upon completion of the bridge’s construction, according to tradition, Melik Tangi reportedly said, “If the rock does not crumble, the bridge will not collapse.” These words seem to have foretold the bridge’s longevity, as it still stands today, continuing to connect the two banks of the Vorotan River.
